Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced six new cases, increasing total COVID-19 cases to 557.

HPA announced in a tweet that as of 11:30 am, six additional cases had been confirmed; five Maldivians and one Bangladeshi.

HPA had announced 24 new cases on Monday, a significant decrease compared to the biggest one-day spike with 191 new cases on Thursday, April 30.

However, HPA epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal recently warned that the comparatively low virus numbers which was being seen since then must not be used as a pretext to relax preventive measures.

The health authorities are currently conducting active surveillance on 23 sites which house migrant workers who are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases such as COVID-19 due to their living situation.

Dr. Afzal said that there was a high chance health authorities discover more large virus clusters during the course of the surveillance.
