Four arrested for violating ban on non-essential travel

Four Maldivians have been arrested for violating the ban on non-essential travel between islands of the Maldives.

The four males had traveled from the island of N. Miladhoo which is under monitoring mechanisms, without informing the Taskforce and Police of the island. They were arrested as they returned to the island around 15:08.

Those arrested are aged 23, 30, 36, and 38, said the Police.

The government has banned non-essential travel between islands of the country in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country which has racked up a total of 269 cases after a community spread was identified on April 15.
