The Civil Court, on Monday, issued a court order for the quarantine of an Austrian national who refused to be taken to a quarantine facility.

Public Health Act empowers authorities to provide specific instructions to persons who have contracted a communicable disease or are suspected of contracting a communicable disease. Non-compliance with the instructions allows authorities to petition the Civil Court for a court order, which must be enforced by the police.

Civil Court has announced that it has issued a statement ordering the police for the forcible quarantine of an Austrian national who had refused to be taken to a quarantine facility in the early hours of this Monday.

The court did not disclose any details.

The Civil Court had previously issued similar quarantine orders for two people who had refused to be taken to a quarantine facility. The two previous cases had involved Maldivian nationals.

Virus cases in Maldives have now risen to 214, with health authorities reporting the biggest one-day spike in new cases on Sunday with 74 cases.
