Police: lockdown violators to be quarantined if necessary

Police have announced that anyone who violates the lockdown order imposed in the capital Male’ city will be punished and quarantined if necessary.

The lockdown order was initiated after the capital confirmed the first case of Covid-19 earlier today.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen warned that violators of the lockdown order would be strictly punished in a news conference today.

“We will be a lot stricter than before. Whether the violation requires the individual to be moved to a quarantine facility, that will also be done,” said Naveen.

Police stated that a contact number would be announced for members of the public to call regarding basic necessities. It is also advised that everyone keep their national identity cards on the person at all times.

Those on their way to Male’ City from other locations are also advised to turn back if the reason for their travel is unnecessary.

“Other than the guideline issued by Police, those who step out into the streets will have to complete a quarantine period of 14-days,” said Naveen.
