Center receives 676 complaints regarding employment

March 29, 2020: Government appointed spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez. Mabrouq announced that all 13 foreign cases of the Covid-19 in the Maldives have made full recoveries.

The National Emergency Response Center received 676 complaints regarding employment issues due to the ongoing situation with the Covid-19 virus.

The government has requested employees to report any issues with their employment situation such as changes to the job status or salary to the National Emergency Response Center. 

“The number of people registering on the platform is increasing and has now risen to 676 registered individuals.” said the government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez.

The job center portal allows complaints to be lodged regarding pay cuts, no pay leaves as well as job terminations.

Tourism Employees Association of the Maldives (TEAM) has previously stated that 11,000 employees from 58 resorts were sent on no pay leaves due to the ongoing situation with the virus

The government is working to ensure that the status of employees and their wages are not affected by the situation with the virus and has also announced MVR 2.5 billion stimulus package to assist businesses.
