The local island of V. Keyodhoo has been reopened after the results of a suspected case of Covid-19 on the island were received as negative.
Government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said in a news conference last night, that the individual who developed Covid-19 symptoms in the island had tested negative for the virus twice. After the results were tested as negative, the monitoring mechanisms placed on the island were lifted by the government.
V. Keyodhoo is an island famous for local tourism and is home to a number of guesthouses. The suspected individual was an employee of a guesthouse on the island.
So far, the Maldives has confirmed 17 cases of the pandemic virus. 13 of these individuals have so far made full recoveries. They are all foreigners. Currently, only four locals are being treated in quarantine for the virus. All four had returned from the UK before being tested positive for the virus.
