China reacted angrily after US President Donald Trump referred to the Covid-19 virus spreading across the globe as “Chinese”.
A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman warned the US should “take care of its own business” before stigmatising China.
The virus first originated in China and the first cases were recorded in the city of Wuhan in late 2019.
Chinese officials have also been on the receiving end of criticism by the US, for sharing a conspiracy theory, alleging that the US Army had brought the virus to the region. The accusation led US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to demand China to stop spreading “disinformation” as it tried “to shift blame” for the outbreak.
So far, more than 170,000 cases have been recorded worldwide, with more than half in China.
However, on Tuesday, Beijing said it had recorded just one new case in China, with all other new cases brought into the country.
