Malaysian authorities have warned visitors to a mosque in the capital Kuala Lamour to remain alert regarding the Covid-19 virus after perceived dangers.

The director-general of health of Malaysia, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdulla tweeted that visitors to the Ijtimak Tabligh at Seri Petaling Mosque in the capital from February 28 to March 1, 2020, to cooperate with the health officials against the spread of the Covid-19 disease. He also advised everyone who had visited the mosque within the period to report to the authorities.

The Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia followed up on this request by advising if any Maldivians had visited the mosque during the time to report to the authorities of the country, they are currently in.

Malaysia is home to countless Maldivian students and is visited by many frequently. Many Maldivian families also reside in the country with the majority based around the Kuala Lampur area.

The country has been hit hard by the Covid-19 and has confirmed 129 cases so far. A Maldivian was placed in quarantine last night upon returning from Malaysia after living in the same building with a confirmed case.

The Maldivian Embassy has also repeatedly requested locals to remain alert over the spread of the disease.

The Maldives has confirmed eight cases of the disease. No locals have been tested positive for the disease yet and the confirmed cases are all from resorts that local communities do not reside on.
