Kuredu Island Resort has announced that it is working to bring back people that left the island before a complete lockdown of the island was initiated following the first two positive cases of the Covid-19 in the Maldives.
The resort informed that eight tourists on the island had gone to the nearby Hurawalhi Resort and that it was working to bring them back.
Kuredu is updating the resort’s status via Facebook ever since the lockdown was initiated. Two more cases were tested positive from the resort yesterday, raising the total number of infected people from the resort to four.
The resort stated that the eight tourists had traveled to Hurawalhi for dinner. MNDF was assisting in their return back to the island.
MNDF is also expected to move the two new cases of the virus, who are both foreign employees of the resort, to an isolation facility. Other than the two employees, their partners are also expected to be moved for safety reasons.
The disease was identified from the resort only after an Italian tourist who had visited the resort tested positive after departing from the Maldives. The first two positive cases included the resort’s doctor. Tourism minister Ali Waheed informed that a total of 699 tourists were on the island when it was placed in lockdown.
