Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced that the man placed in isolation after arriving in the Maldives from Italy tested negative for the fast-spreading Covid-19 disease. The person has now been released from isolation.

The agency also stated that another local was placed in isolation after being suspected. Preventive and safety measures were being undertaken regarding the case, according to the agency.

Italy is the second worst-hit country by the disease after China. The country has so far reported 107 fatalities from the disease.

Chilean tourist case being monitored

In another case, HPA stated that the case of a tourist from Chile who had spent time in the Maldives and was tested positive for the disease after departing was being monitored. The agency stated the person’s whereabouts in the country were being monitored.

The agency had previously stated that it was working with Chilean authorities and international stakeholders to identify the tourist. It was now working on monitoring the locations the person had visited in the country and to identify any suspected cases if any from these locations.
