First case of Coronavirus confirmed in India

India has reported its first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus that originated from China.

News agency, India Today has reported that the patient is a student studying who was studying in the Wuhan University, China.

In a statement, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of India said that the student is from Kerala. Kerala is home to Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum and Kochi, both popular destinations among Maldivians for medical and holiday travel. A large number of Maldivians are also known to reside in Trivandrum.

"The patient has tested positive for novel coronavirus and is in isolation in the hospital. The patient is stable and is being closely monitored," the statement by Indian PIB read.

The virus which started in China's Wuhan city in early December last year has so far claimed the lives of more than 170.
