Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef has denied rumors that she used a Maldivian embassy vehicle for personal purposes whole on holiday in Malaysia.

Minister’s response came in response to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation into the matter. The case was submitted to the ACC by a private party.

Minister vehemently denied the allegations in a Facebook post and stated that she had not seen nor used the car in question and this would be very clear once the matter was correctly investigated by the authorities.

She also highlighted the positive effect of the current administration that allows such allegations against Ministers to be investigated as well. The ACC confirmed that the case was being investigated but did not provide any further details of the case.

A similar case of the Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed was also submitted to the ACC recently. Nasheed was accused of using parliament funds for a trip to a southern atoll in October to meet with political activists of MDP.
