Defense Ministry has extended the deadline for safety standards in chemical storage facilities for three months, starting from December 24, 2019.

The safety standards include 90-minute fire resistant partitions as well as 90-minute fire resistant doors, and must establish the Active and Passive Fire Protection issued by MNDF fire and rescue services.

The standards of chemical storages were raised due to devastating fire that occurred in a chemical storage in a congested neighborhood of Male’ city, last September.

The fire killed one and left several households damaged beyond repair. The government decided to move all chemical storages to Thilafushi after the fire.
