Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has opened application for the Supreme Court vacancy left in the wake of Justice Abdul Ghani Mohamed’s impeachment.
Ghani was impeached with the majority vote of 64 parliamentarians in a no-confidence vote on December 4.
His impeachment had followed the conclusion of misconduct probes by the JSC.
JSC opened application for the vacancy this Thursday.
The requirements for the position includes; being a Sunni Muslim, lack of present service in an elected or political position, non-membership or affiliation with any political party.
Applicants must also not have any record of an embezzlement conviction, bribery conviction or any conviction for a crime which is punishable under Sharia law issued against him/her in a court of law, and must not have been convicted for an act of terrorism and served a sentence for such a conviction within the past seven years, and if he/she has a declared debt, must be someone of who is repaying the debt accordance with the relevant court ruling.
Additional requirements include being 30 years of age, holding a First Degree in Islamic Sharia, or Law, or Law and Islamic Sharia, and at least seven years of experience as a judge and/or lawyer.
The deadline for application is noon of December 17.
