Recently appointed Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood has taken a step back from twitter.
Justice Suood locked the account he was using under his name which had about 47,000 followers, before changing the name to Maldives Law Institute.
The institute established in 2004, is run under Suood and Anwar LLP. Justice Suood has also transferred the shares he had in the law firm, which in turn changed its name and main shareholders soon after.
Justice Suood, who was an avid user of Twitter, was appointed to the top court of Maldives on December 8. He had previously expressed his views on legal, social and political subjects through his account on twitter before his appointment.
It is very much likely that these changes are as a result of the Supreme Court appointment. The disciplinary standards set for Judges and Justices state that his/her actions, speech ideas expressed in any manner must not create uncertainties regarding the judge or justices independence, freedom and fairness.
Suood previously served as the Attorney General of Maldives, President of the Presidential Commission on Deaths and Dissapearances. A graduate of Queensland University, Suood worked as one of the most prominent lawyers in the Maldives.
