Sept. 1 designated as National Grandparents Day

Gender Ministry has announced that starting from next year, September 1 will be celebrated as Grandparents Day or “Maama, Kaafa Day”.

Grandparents Day is celebrated to appreciate and value the services of the elderly to the country and pass these services onto the next generation. Gender Ministry also noted the importance of sharing the knowledge and experience of the elderly as well as creating a community that is taken part by everyone, as purposes of celebrating this day.

The day is also celebrated to increase the love and respect of youths to grandparents, create a society that is kind, caring and friendly from the work of the three generations. National Grandparents Day will also be celebrated much like any other international or national day of celebration in colleges, universities, and schools across the country. Gender Ministry also emphasized the importance of councils celebrating the day colorfully.
