Maldives recognized as leading beach destination in WTA

The Maldives has taken home the award for the World’s Leading Beach Destination at the World Travel Awards 2019.

The award was won by the Maldives after competing with 15 other destinations, including Thailand, Philipines, Miami, and Hawaii in the USA. The award was presented to the Maldivian delegation at a ceremony held in The Royal Opera House of Muscat, Oman, last Thursday.

Maldivian resorts also won the awards for:

  • World's Leading Luxury Island Resort 2019: The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort
  • World's Leading Island Villas 2019: W Maldives
  • World's Leading Honeymoon Resort 2019: JA Manafaru Maldives
  • World's Leading Airport Resort 2019: Hulhule Island Hotel, Maldives
  • World's Leading Underwater Hotel Restaurant 2019: Ithaa Undersea Restaurant @ Conrad Maldives
  • World's Leading Water Villa Resort 2019: Sun Aqua Vilu Reef, Maldives
  • World's Most Romantic Resort 2019: Baros Maldives

The Maldives and its resorts were nominated for several other categories as well. Associated with luxury and natural beauty, Maldives saw the opening of 19 new resorts in 2019 alone. The figure is expected to increase by the end of the year.

115 islands are under development currently and the Maldives recorded 1.5 million visitors in 2019 by the end of November.
