The Attorney General's (AG) office has proposed that a separate office be established for marriages.

The proposal was included in the paper sent by the AG to the "Judicial Symposium on Family Justice" held in Bandos Island Resort.

The symposium was held to strengthen the justice system on family issues and the AG office recommended a separate office named "Marriage Registrars Office" be established for marriage affairs in the paper. This work was previously carried out by the Family Court.

The AG stated that it recommended that the office be tasked with overseeing a registry of marriages and conduct marriage procedures as stated in the law. The AG stated that this would allow the involvement of Island Councils and make marriage services available in islands without a Magistrate Court.
