Health Protection Agency (HPA) has instructed nearby residences to shut doors and windows to avoid exposure following the leak of malathion, a chemical used to control mosquitos stored at the Roashanee Building.
Roashanee Building houses both the HPA and Ministry of Health.
40 of the malathion bottles, stored inside the building has leaked this Tuesday.
HPA has released a statement stressing the importance of nearby residences shutting its doors and windows to avoid exposure to the chemical. It has advised anyone feeling the effects of exposure to the chemical to seek medical assistance without delay.
Exposure to malathion may result in respiratory difficulties, cough, teary eyes, blurred vision, headache, dizziness and nausea.
HPA reports several of its employees suffered nausea, vomiting and dizziness from exposure to the chemical, and two were hospitalized.
MNDF reports the chemical leak is now under control.
