Leader of Adhaalath Party (AP), Sheikh Imran Abdulla – recently released from house arrest – has paid a visit to President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu).

The meeting took place last Saturday.

Solih has visited Imran several times during his house arrest, but this is the first time for the two politicians to meet after Supreme Court granted an injunction to delay the prison sentence against Imran last Thursday.

With his release, Imran has started making appearances in the opposition coalition’s political activities, even making an appearance to welcome former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed from exile. Nasheed returned from exile last Thursday, the same day the court granted the injunction to delay Imran’s sentence.

Imran was found guilty of inciting violence through his speech at the opposition rally on May 1, 2015 and sentenced to 12 years in prison under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He was living under house arrest when the court issued its injunction for a delay in his sentence.
