Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has ordered Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure to suspend the housing scheme opened last Sunday to sell land from Hulhumale’ Phase II.
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure announced the decision to opened application for the housing scheme to sell 400 plots of land of 1,000 square feet last Sunday afternoon, opened application later in the evening.
ACC has sent a letter to Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure noting the commission has received complaints over the legality of the housing scheme and opportunity for corruption in connection with the housing scheme.
ACC notified the ministry that it is investigating the complaints.
“We therefore instruct you to suspend the decision by the ministry to issue 400 plots of land from Hulhumale’ pending the outcome of the commission’s investigation.
Thousands have queued outside Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure to apply for the scheme.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who announced the scheme last Sunday said the price of the plots of land is MVR 400,000, which can be paid in installments.
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure is already running another housing scheme – Hiyaa Project – which’s application was closed on September 30. ACC has also instructed the ministry to temporarily suspend the Hiyaa Project.
