Hart, Sturridge out of England friendly vs. Italy

LONDON (AP) — England's Football Association says that goalkeeper Joe Hart and striker Daniel Sturridge will both miss Wednesday's international friendly against Italy after picking up injuries.

Manchester City's Hart has a back problem, which ruled him out of Sunday's Community Shield win over Chelsea, and Sturridge has a toe injury. Sturridge came on as a substitute in the match at Villa Park.

Neither will be replaced in Roy Hodgson's squad ahead of the match in Berne, Switzerland.

Hart's absence means that either Jack Butland or John Ruddy will make an England debut in goal. Butland was Great Britain's 'keeper at the London Olympics.

England's game against Italy is a rerun of their match in the quarterfinals of the European Championship in June, which Italy won after a penalty shootout.
