Kompany signs 6-year deal with Manchester City

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City says captain and center back Vincent Kompany has signed a six-year contract with the English champions.

The club announced the deal on its website on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Belgian said "I have been here since the beginning and I have seen everything at the club change inside and out. I have the feeling that I have contributed to it too. It

is good to know that I can be at City for another six years. It is a compliment that the club feels so highly of me."

Kompany joined Manchester City from Hamburg in 2008.
