Maldives joins continent’s biggest tourism fair

Maldives is participating in Asia’s biggest tourism fair – China International Travel Market (CITM) – which started in Shanghai, China, on Friday morning.

52 representatives from 23 Maldivian companies are participating in the fair, held at Shanghai New International Expo Center.

The Maldivian delegation is led by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Shazaail Shiyam and Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Haaris Mohamed.

MMPRC reports that over 2,500 exhibitors from different areas within the Asian travel market are participating in CITM 2016; this incudes organizations, hotels, airlines, travel agencies and many more.

The fair, which will continue until November 13, is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors.

Stalls of Maldivian travel and tourism businesses have been set up in a 203 square foot area.

MMPRC reports that “Visit Maldives Year” and “Sunny Side of Life” slogans have been displayed at the entrance of two main hallways in Shanghai New International Expo Center.

China is currently Maldives’ biggest tourist market. And the tourism industry is working hard to push up the numbers.

Maldives also recently signed an agreement with the municipality of Huzhou City to promote tourism.
