Xavi to attend exhibition match at Galolhu Stadium!

Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has announced that Spanish football star Xavier "Xavi" Hernández Creus will be attending the exhibition match between SAFF cup-winning Maldivian national team and the current Maldivian national team – scheduled for August 29 at the Galolhu National Football Stadium.

The announcement was made by President of FAM, Ahmed Toriq (Tom), during a press conference by FAM on Wednesday.

Tom said, however, that Xavier is not granted permission to play football in Maldives by his current club - Al Sadd SC of Qatar.

“FAM is carrying out a lot of programs. We are hiring consultants needed to make plans to promote and develop football in the country,” said Tom.

He said that FAM had invited all players who were part of the winning team during SAFF Championship to participate in the exhibition match. He expressed hope that all invitees would participate in the match.

The gold medal winning team will be coached by Joseph Janke, who led the team to success.

Xavi will be joined by former Argentina national football team captain Roberto Ayala as special guests during the match.
