Lionel Messi, Barcelona lead AP Global Football 10 poll

LONDON (AP) — Barcelona returned to the top of The Associated Press Global Football 10 on Tuesday, and Lionel Messi was again voted the top player of the week.

Messi assisted on Barcelona's first two goals — scored by Luis Suarez and Neymar — before netting the third in a 3-1 win over defending champion Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Neymar is sixth in the player poll and Suarez is 10th.

"The cameras inside Camp Nou captured Barcelona's good side on Sunday night, their flashes illuminating the image of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, arms around one another as they cavorted in celebration of a third goal," Chris Tait of The Herald in Scotland said.

Juventus is second in the team poll after moving three points clear at the top of Serie A by winning at Napoli. Southampton is a place behind after beating Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday at Old Trafford to move into third in the Premier League.

Bastia's surprising 4-2 victory over French champion Paris Saint-Germain put it into fourth place in the poll. Bastia trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes, but pulled level by halftime before scoring two more in the second half.

Real Madrid enters this week's poll in fifth place following a 3-0 win over Espanyol which kept the 10-time European champions at the top of the Spanish league, three points clear of Barcelona.

In sixth place is Chelsea, followed by Lyon, Arsenal, Inter Milan and Montpellier.

In the player poll, Roma playmaker Francesco Totti is second to Messi after scoring two second-half goals against city rival Lazio in a 2-2 draw.

He celebrated his equalizer by grabbing a phone and taking a selfie as supporters celebrated in the background.

"The selfie is a symbol of eternal love between the number 10 and the fans of Roma. One more chapter of his living legend," Tito Puccetti of ESPN in Argentina said.

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez is third after also scoring twice to propel his team to a 3-0 win over Stoke, and Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon is fourth after his two goals in the 3-0 win over Toulouse. Lyon leads Marseille, which lost to Montpellier 2-1, by one point at the top of the French standings.

"While the trendy Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain stumble in France, Lyon is confirmed as the championship's surprise team," Leonardo Bertozzi of ESPN in Brazil said. "It can be the underdog in the race for the Ligue 1 title."

Brazil international Oscar is in fifth place after scoring Chelsea's opener in the 2-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday. He later assisted on Diego Costa's goal by controlling a chip from Eden Hazard and flicking the ball into the Spaniard's path with one touch.

Also in the top 10, Gareth Bale is seventh and Real Madrid teammate James Rodriguez is ninth, with Bastia midfielder Julian Palmieri splitting the two in eighth place after scoring twice in the win over PSG.
