SANDY, Utah (AP) — Alvaro Saborio and Kyle Beckerman scored as Real Salt Lake beat Chivas USA 2-0 on Wednesday night in its last game of the regular season.
Salt Lake moved into third place in the Western Conference — two points ahead of FC Dallas, which hosts Portland on Saturday.
Saborio scored from the penalty spot in the 36th minute and Beckerman doubled the lead in the 74th when he took a pass from Joao Plata and slid a shot through the legs of goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
Salt Lake kept a clean sheet for a third straight game and scored against Chivas for the first time this season after two 1-0 losses.
Chivas is in a share of last spot with San Jose and will host the Earthquakes on Sunday.
