Maicon extends Roma contract for 1 more season

ROME (AP) — Brazil right back Maicon has extended his contract with Roma through next season.

The deal also includes an option for 2016-17.

The 33-year-old Maicon joined Roma last season and has shown solid form after a short, troublesome spell at Manchester City.

While Roma did not announce financial details, the Gazzetta dello Sport estimated the deal at about 1.5 million euros ($1.9 million) per season.

Meanwhile, Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman returned to training Monday for the first time since undergoing left knee surgery in March.

However, Roma, which is second in Serie A, appears to have lost key midfielder Seydou Keita to a torn calf muscle for a month. Keita, who was injured while playing for Mali, will likely miss Roma's match at Bayern Munich in the Champions League next week.
