SYDNEY (AP) — Australian A-League club Sydney has terminated the contract of goalkeeper Liam Reddy for breaching his contract by drinking alcohol on a flight to a playoff match in New Zealand on March 30.
Reddy was sent home from Wellington before the match after admitting to drinking on the flight from Australia. Sydney lost the first-round playoff match 3-2 to the Phoenix.
The A-League club Friday in a statement Reddy's actions represented "serious misconduct and do not reflect the actions we believe to be appropriate for a professional football player with Sydney FC."
Reddy was in the second year of a three-year contract and had played 37 matches for Sydney.
