Police search home of suspect in tribal slayings

ALTURAS, California (AP) — Police armed with rifles and pistols have searched the home of the former Cedarville Rancheria tribal leader held on suspicion of killing four people and wounding two others at a tribal meeting in northeastern California.

Officers from Alturas Police, California Highway Patrol and the Modoc County Sheriff's Office went to the house of Cherie Lash Rhoades in Cedarville late Friday afternoon.

One Alturas police officer who would not give his name acknowledged that they were serving a search warrant, but would not say what they seized.

Rhoades has been held on suspicion that she opened fire on a tribal meeting in Alturas that was called to consider her eviction from the rancheria.
