More French soldiers to Central African Republic

BANGUI, Central African Republic (AP) — French President Francois Hollande says his country is raising its troop deployment in Central African Republic to 1,600 — 400 more than initially planned.

Hollande told reporters after a Paris summit on security in Africa that the 1,600 deployment — to be completed Saturday — would remain as long as necessary for its mission to help stabilize the country.

He also said the French troops would fan out as quickly and broadly as possible in the African country.
