SANDY, Utah (AP) — Chris Schuler's extra-time goal ensured Real Salt Lake progressed to the Western Conference final with a 2-1 aggregate semifinal win over Los Angeles, ending the Galaxy's bid for a third straight MLS Cup.
RSL reached the conference final for the third time in five years, with Sebastian Velasquez scoring in the 35th minute — his first MLS goal — and Schuler adding the clincher on Thursday to erase Galaxy's 1-0 lead from the first leg.
Seattle was playing at Portland later Thursday in the other semifinal.
Sporting Kansas City and Houston will meet Saturday in the first leg of the East Conference final.
