Sporting rallies for win to gain on leader Porto

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Sporting Lisbon rallied for a 3-2 victory against 10-man Maritimo to cut into FC Porto's league lead as the defending champion was held to a draw in Portugal on Saturday.

Ruben Ferreira canceled out Diego Capel for Sporting before Heldon's spot kick sent Maritimo into the break leading 2-1.

Adrien Silva converted a 76th-minute penalty following Joao Diogo's sending off to cap a comeback that moved it within three points of Porto after its 1-1 draw at Belenenses.

At Do Restelo Stadium, Joao Pedro scored three minutes after Eliaquim Mangala had Porto ahead on the half hour.

Porto must bounce back for Wednesday's Champions League match at Zenit St. Petersburg as it is second-bottom in Group G.

Porto leads by three points from Sporting and Benfica.
