FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The German Football Federation has called a news conference for Friday and is widely expected to announce the extension of coach Joachim Loew's contract past next year's World Cup.
Germany has secured a slot at next year's World Cup and DFB officials have made it clear since then that Loew will get a contract extension, probably for another two years after the World Cup.
Loew's current contract runs through the World Cup but DFB officials want an early extension to avoid any distractions during the tournament.
Loew has been charge of the team since 2006, when Jurgen Klinsmann stepped down following a third-place finish at the World Cup at home.
Loew will celebrate his 100th match in charge when Germany plays Italy in Milan on Nov. 15.
