Ronaldo helps promote worker safety at Maracana

SAO PAULO (AP) — World Cup organizing committee members Ronaldo and Bebeto visited the construction site at Maracana Stadium to help promote workers' safety.

With hard hats on, the former Brazil strikers talked to the about 4,000 workers renovating the famed venue on Friday, alerting them to the importance of following safety procedures on site.

Ronaldo and Bebeto are members of the committee's administrative council, helping spearhead the nation's preparations for the World Cup.

The duo played together in the 1998 tournament in France, where Brazil lost the final to the host. They also were in the squad which won the 1994 World Cup in the United States. Ronaldo was key for Brazil when it won the 2002 tournament.

Maracana will host the 2014 World Cup final.
