LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Portuguese league leader Benfica was held to 0-0 at Academica on Saturday with its clash against rival FC Porto looming next week.
Academica goalkeeper Romuald Peiser denied Benfica playmaker Pablo Aimar's clear chance to score early with a header, and went on to make several stops of substitute Nelson Oliveira in the second half.
Benfica has gone two games without a win after losing to Guimaraes in the previous round, and sits three points clear of defending champion Porto, which faces Feirense on Sunday.
The two powerhouses then meet next Friday.
"We created the chances to win the game, but we are missing our scoring touch in recent games," Aimar said.
