Death toll in India hotel collapse rises to 17

HYDERABAD, India (AP) — The death toll in the collapse of a two-story hotel in southern India has climbed to 17 as rescue workers continued to dig through debris, police said Tuesday.

Police officer Anurag Sharma said that another 20 people were hurt after the City Light hotel collapsed in a Hyderabad city suburb. The accident took place early Monday morning.

Sharma said it was unclear if more people were trapped but rescue teams were working to clear the debris.

The hotel, which is about 80 years old, is located in the Secunderabad suburb of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state.

It was not clear what caused the building to collapse, Sharma said.
