CARDIFF, Wales (AP) — India bowled Australia out for an unprecedented 65 to seal a crushing 243-run victory in a Champions Trophy warmup game at Sophia Gardens on Tuesday.
Had it been an official match, Australia would have recorded its lowest score in a one-day international by five runs.
Five batsmen played on to their wickets in a woeful performance that lasted only 24 overs as Australia tried to chase India's 308-6.
Captain Michael Clarke, who missed the win over West Indies on Saturday, was absent again because of ongoing back problems. He was due to see a specialist in London on Wednesday, and was in doubt for the Trophy opener on Saturday against England.
George Bailey, who led the side in Clarke's absence, was frank about his team's display.
"It's not ideal," he said. "I don't think you ever want to have a game like that whether it is practice or not.
"It's not something we are particularly happy with."
Umesh Yadav tore out Australia's top order, claiming 5-18 off five overs. Fellow pace bowler Ishant Sharma took 3-11 off five.
India had been in similar trouble at 55-5 in the 17th over, but Dinesh Karthik and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni revived them with a 211-run stand in 30 overs. Dhoni was out for 91 while Karthik finished 146 not out from 140 balls.
"It's a practice game and it is good to get as much as you can out of it from our point of view, rather than looking at what the result is," spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said.
