Thailand's Red Shirts call for judges' resignation

BANGKOK (AP) — Hundreds of protesters in Thailand have called for the resignation of the country's nine constitutional court judges.

The pro-government "Red Shirt" demonstrators accused the judges of interfering in ruling party efforts to amend the constitution, which was drafted after a 2006 coup.

Wednesday's peaceful protest is the latest episode in Thailand's long-running political turmoil, which has left the country largely divided between supporters and opponents of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in the coup.

Critics say the government is trying to amend the constitution to benefit politicians allied with Thaksin.

The protesters also met with representatives of Parliament to discuss their demands.

Thaksin's sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, is the current prime minister.
