Funds needed for Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim’s eye treatment raised in 24 hours

Over MVR 400,000 has been raised in donations for Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim (Naifaree)’s treatment to improve his eyesight and the medical tests required in this trajectory within 24 hours.

According to ‘Edhiha’ platform by local NGO, Ehee, a total of MVR 400,000 was required for the Sheikh’s eye surgery and medical tests. Within the past 24 hours, donations for the Sheikh have reached MVR 407,949 (USD 26,455.83), exceeding the required amount.

The donations were received from 1,399 individuals.

Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim, who serves as an Islamic teacher at Lh. Naifaru Madharsathul Ifthithaah, has written several books on various religious topics, delivered religious lectures, and responds to questions from the public on religious matters.

He has also translated important books such as Hisnu Muslim, Kitab Al-Siyam and Kitab Al-Salat.

Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim, who suffers from impaired vision, underwent eye surgeries in 2019 and 2021. His condition further deteriorated in 2023, following he was transferred to Indira Gandhi Memoria Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ for additional treatment where it was uncovered he has a brain tumor. He was then transferred to ADK Hospital where he underwent surgery to remove the brain tumor.

While the surgery was a success, it was at the cost of his eyesight. Subsequently, he lost his job, which he had for 17 years.

Notably, only 75 percent of the tumor was removed during the surgery Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim underwent in 2023. Circumstances have also prevented him from undergoing the MRI required to monitor the remaining 25 percent of the tumor, and he continues to experience kidney-related issues from time to time.
