Building in Farukolhufushi burns down in fire

A building in Farukolhufushi at Hulhumale’ Phase II has been significantly damaged in the fire that broke out on Friday afternoon.

A witness told Sun that the fire broke out at approximately 13:00pm this afternoon, during the Friday prayer.

Videos and photos show the building largely engulfed in flames and smoke.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the fire was brought under control at 13:40pm. No one was injured in the incident.

No further details regarding the incident have been disclosed as at present.

Farukolhufushi, where a resort was previously operated, is now leased for industrial purposes. Parts of Farukolhufushi is also rented as an event space.
