Statistics published by Maldives Police Service show that 119 motorbikes were reported stolen from Male’ in October.
The 119 motorbikes stolen included Honda Wave/ Scooters, Honda PCX, Honda Air Blade and Yamaha NMAX.
According to the Police, 110 out of the 119 motorbikes were recovered, accounting for a 92.4 percent recovery rate. Their estimated value was placed at MVR 4 million based on the average market value of the common models.
In September, Police recovered 109 stolen motorcycles valued at MVR 6 million.
With motorbike theft on the rise, Police have urged people to protect their motorbikes, citing that theft is often a crime of opportunity. In this regard, the Police have urged to remove the key after parking, use the magnetic shutter lock and park in well-lit and visible areas.
